About the Event

Unresolved conflict in the workplace rarely resolves itself and escalates if not addressed at the earliest opportunity. This three hour Conflict Awareness presentation is designed to increase awareness of what causes conflict and develop skills to more effectively resolve or prevent it. We will examine the brain’s response in conflict; conflict styles; the causes of conflict and communication skills. The workshop starts with some theory so the participants can understand why they react the way they do in conflict and finishes with some skill building. Combining theory and interactive exercises the presentation will provide an introduction to some of the foundational concepts in Conflict Management.

Our presenter, Melanie Gerhardt, is currently the Informal Conflict Management Practitioner with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in K Division (Alberta). Melanie has always had a passion for helping people, and it was a first-hand experience while managing her own team that led to her exploration of interest-based communication and ultimately further study in conflict management. Melanie has achieved a certificate in Conflict Resolution from Mount Royal University.
